Corner Cottage is a great place that was introduced to me by one of my best friends. This quaint establishment may seem odd at first. I mean look at that sign! When your 2 biggest draws are Breakfast Burritos and Teriyaki Bowls, you know you just found a place worth experiencing.

This place only takes cash, but it is totally worth the stop at the ATM. All their Breakfast Burritos are amazing and most importantly, they are cheap. This will be an addiction that will be hard to shake once I move to LA. It may look like any other burrito, but taking a bite of this flavorful explosion of egg, cheese, hash browns and choice of meat will have you wanting another. Check out this place!!!

During my trip downtown to see FIDM with my fiancee, we became hungry and found this place. It is called Lilet and it was great Persian food. If you are near the fashion district of downtown LA, then try out this place.

We had Ghorem Sabzi to start out, which is basically a stew made with red beans and spices. For entree, we had chosen Barg and Koobideh kabobs. Barg kabobs are made from a minced beef while the Koobideh is filet mignon. As you can see the kabobs were accompanied by some fire roasted tomatoes, onions, peppers, as well as a bed of rice and cucumber salad. We also had some Hubert’s Lemonade to go along with this meal, a really awesome brand and I wish there were more places that carried it. The Habit in LA. Apparently there is a rivalry between this place and In-N-Out according to my LA friends. I don’t see how you can compare the two though, I like both places for different reasons.

This burger was awesome though. It was a Teriyaki Charburger with Avocado and grilled mushrooms. Not to mention those onion rings. Mmmm… onion rings…

Sooraya Qadir, or Dust, is a Sunni X-Men from Afghanistan. She is an atrociously underrated character. I realized, while cosplaying her, she does have a great fan based. Many agreed with me that she is under-utilized and appreciated. Marvel event staff told me I was the first cosplay of Dust they had seen. They thought it was because women didn’t want to cover themselves so much. It could also be because no one wants to be offensive. I did not do this cosplay to be offensive. I did it because of how much I admire this peaceful woman who teaches the importance of not judging others. She is a true Muslim and hero.

Brian Wood, do you need more X-Women for that new book :)

Oh jeez, now that is a question…

I have not had the opportunity to update because I have been focusing on both my studies and my upcoming wedding :)

However, I will let you know that there will be a couple posts coming out soon. I just so happen to be going to California and then Japan in the coming months. I assure you that I will have plenty of pictures from those trips ;)

Wow, I apparently can’t stay updated to save my life. This pic set is actually pretty old. But what the heck doesn’t it look good? My fiancee and I were watching some food shows on Netflix and then what do you know, we got really hungry. Looking at the clock and knowing nothing is really open at 1 am, we decided to make our own stuff. After a trip to Dominicks we got our grub and started cooking. Needless to say our meal was delicious.

As a little appetizer we had some stuffed mushrooms. Just some baby bellas with some Italian sausage on top.

The salmon was easy enough, just some lemon juice, rosemary and a lot of butter. The red potatoes were lightly fried with some of the rosemary we didn’t use on the salmon. We also had some steamed green beans to go with the salmon.

For desert, we had some croissants with some cheese along with a lot of strawberries.

You never know what you can make (even when it is 2 am), so just go for it! Maybe you can have a dish as great as these.

This year at C2E2 there was something new that really impressed...

This year at C2E2 there was something new that really impressed me. The CBR Bar was a new fixture in an already awesome convention. Having a full array of bar food and specialty drinks, there is a little something for everyone. I had their Kobe Beef Burger which is THE best burger I have ever eaten. A very hearty medium rare Kobe Beef patty, White Cheddar, Fried Egg, Bacon, Grilled Pineapple, and Herb Mayonnaise. All served with some fries and multiple dipping sauces (Mustard, Ketchup, and a very good herb sauce). Unfortunately I am still 20 so I was not able to sample any of their comic inspired drinks. But my friends did say their drinks were pretty good. Hopefully C2E2 will host the CBR Bar again so I can sample some of those drinks personally. Not many burger pictures. It was gone fast :)

On a side note, it has been 100 days since I started my new eating habits. I am still going strong and it has been quite the journey. Again, I should be posting more (hopefully) since school is winding down. Happy eating!

Lifestyle Change

Well it has been the first time I have been able to breathe this semester. So much for posting regularly :) Anyway, just wanted to update on my eating habits. I am trying to control more of what I eat and how much I am eating of it. This is not a New Year’s Resolution as it is a lifestyle change. By no means is this a diet either. Resolutions seldom are followed through and diets will only cause irregularities in weight gain. In order to keep track of my eating habits I have been keeping a journal for the past 14 days now of everything I eat. I hope to see what makes up the majority of my meals at the beginning of summer or whenever I choose to stop. Oh and for those of you who want to know these are the guidelines to my eating habits:

Try to limit 1 plate per meal, also maintaining a healthy proportion of grain/veggies to meat (at least 2/3 of the plate should be grain/veggies)
Try to eat 3 meals a day with a light snack between meals
Limit soda, chips and other salty snacks, and sweets to once a week
Limit eating burgers or pizza at the cafeteria
Limit eating out to once a week
Drink water constantly

I hope everyone is having a great Holiday! I am sorry I have not been posting as often as I would like. School, life and of course eating has been taking up a lot of my time. Don’t worry though, I should be posting more regularly this year. More free time and more opportunities for eating out. For now, here is a nice flashback to a couple months ago. My sister and I attended our town’s Scarecrow Festival and dropped in on some of the hardworking food stalls. I hope you are ready to feel hungry.

So this was my second attempt ever at stuffed burgers. It seems that a 1/3 of 85/15 ground beef is the best way to go. My burger in particular was stuffed with colby jack, provolone, mushrooms and onions. My Girlfriend, whom I was celebrating a 4 year anniversary, had the same combination only with Spinach. The burgers were delicious. 5 minutes per side was absolutely perfect. Still thinking of better bread to have, we just had regular sesame seed buns. Not very sturdy but they got the job done.

This is some of the selection from this great place in Chicago’s Chinatown. If you are in my neck of the woods, swing by Lao Beijing Chinese Restaurant. Located in Chinatown Square at 2138 S. Archer Avenue.

I ate with a group of 11 people and our bill turned out to be $139.10 with Tax and gratuity. We had 4 Appetizers and 9 dishes. For appetizers Pan Fried Onion Cakes, Shanghai Style Pork Dumplings, Sticky Rice Balls in a Sweet Sesame Soup, and Lamb Dumplings. No pictures unfortunately, my group devoured that entire selection. As for Entrees we had Shanghai Pan Fried Noodle, Moo Shu Pork Beijing Style, Stir Fried Shredded Duck, Sesame Chicken, Beef with Mushroom, Chicken with Pea Pod, Hunan Lamb and Walnut Shrimp. They also provide a very big bowl of rice and free tea. Everything was cooked perfectly. I ate everything and craved more once we left.

They have a huge menu and I can’t wait to explore what else they have to offer. The servers are attentive and kept all our water glasses full. Our food came out about 5 minutes after ordering. The main highlight of the meal was the Moo Shu Pork Beijing Style. I could probably eat the entire plate (even without the pancakes they provide). I will definitely come to this place. I have eaten in 6 different restaurants in Chicago’s Chinatown and this place has got them beat. Before entering you see the photos of some prestigious guests that have eaten there (i.e. Bill Clinton, Yao Ming, Martin Yan, as well as ABC 7’s Steve Dolinsky) and they have certainly earned their attention. Try this place out and you will not be disappointed.
